Document Permissions

Document Permissions

A document normally follows its folder’s permissions: whoever can see the folder can see the document.

Sharing One Document More Widely

A document can also be given to someone who can’t see its folder, for a one-off or for a while. They can’t find it by browsing, because they can’t open the folder, but they can reach it by its doc # or a link. From there they can open it, preview it, download it, and see its properties and versions, as their permissions on the document allow.

To change a document’s permissions, select it and open its Security tab. The tab appears only if you have the Security permission on that document.

Folders Work Differently

A folder can be more restricted than the folder above it, but never less. So a document can be shared beyond its folder, but a folder can’t open up a matter to people the matter’s workspace doesn’t let in. See Stores and Matter Workspaces.
